Review by lenf for Beginner Guitar Lessons Level 1 Book And DVD (Music Sales America)
Rating:
The video lessons may be inviting, but the book and instruction is very lacking.
First, there is actually not a single bit of music anywhere – no tab, no staff, no lyrics. To “learn” a song you are asked to play a video from the DVD. That would be fine if there was anything included here to go along with the video, but there’s not. The publisher must think all one has to do to play like Clapton, say, is watch him on a video. You can get better video lessons on YouTube.
Second, the production quality here is terrible. Whole pages are taken up with a single major chord, made up of a dark, very grainy photo of a hand forming the chord and a simple fret illustration. Maybe they decided it was more important to waste all the page space with very poor graphics rather than include, oh, something as minor as the lyrics and chords of the songs they say you can learn.
There are some excellent guitar methods available on Amazon. But if you want the worst one, I think this one has the market to itself. iPlayMusic should be ashamed that this thing got out the door, at least without a leash.
