any of those boxed-up packs are okay, I guess. Frankly, if you get into guitar, most of the stuff you find in the box sets is junk. Best suggestion I can give is to buy piecemeal. You can go to Musiciansfriend.com and get a 100-150 dollar amp (crate 30watt, fender frontman 25r, Marshall DFX30watt, Peavey Valvestate, etc.) and a 100-150 dollar guitar (all top companies have cheapo models), a 10 dollar strap, a bag of pics for 5 bucks, and 2 cords (in case you buy a stompbox down the road). Most of the top-end box sets are 250-300, and have WAY junkier stuff than what I just mentioned.

I was trying to answer this yesterday but had computer problems. That Behringer Metalien guitar seems to be a really good deal, pretty well made, a lot of voicings. Weakness is packaging, with the review I’m going to add here, but I wouldn’t be too concerned about that. I don’t see how you could go wrong for $150. This one has the amp.

Here’s one for the USB model: You can get this one for $150 also, even though it says $220 on this review.
