I’m self taught but the answer to this question depends a lot upon your temperament. If you are very undisciplined you may want to consider a guitar teacher to provide you with some discipline around learning the lessons. If you work well on your own and are able to get yourself to practice daily – I said practice DAILY – then you can find ample resources for guitar teaching on the internet.

A good place to start is to learn the notes on the fretboard. If you’re just starting don’t sell yourself short on this. Learn all the notes up to the twelfth fret where they begin to repeat. You’ll thank yourself later on for taking this step.

Learn the open major and minor chords.

Learn diatonic major and pentatonic major and minor scales.

Get a metronome and get yourself used to a steady beat and practice to the metronome always.

    Good luck!

If u know the chords and basic things i would learn by myself but if i know nothing than get lessons. i have a guitar and i go to lessons but i started off learning by myself. It was quite hard so i would go to lessons.

im self-taught, and to be honest, im better than anyone else my age except for one or two people at my school, taking into account that about 40 people play guitar at school
it is hard and you pick up bad habits, but it saves quite a bit of money

Save yourself the money and learn on your own. Start with chords and scales, once you know that try and learn some easy songs like the chords in Hotel California.

    Bm F# A E G and D

I recommend at least a few lessons
to get started in the right direction
you don’t need them forever, just a few so you don’t develope bad habits

Learn how tp hold the guitar correctly,
    hold your hands,
    play the notes/chords

Make SURE that they teach you chords too, not just notes !!!

a one on one teacher can answer your questions,
    books and videos can’t

once you have the basics down, you can go off on your own, and enjoy it more
