A Fender Squier is a good guitar to start learning on. Basically it’s a more affordable version of the more expensive Fender guitars. Not as great quality of course, but it’s great for just starting out.
Get a Fender Squire Strat. Go to Musiciansfriend.com or your local music store for one. They cost around 169.00. I have one and it plays/sounds real nice.
Depends completely on the sound you want and the budget you have.
Squier, Epiphone, Ibanez, they all make decent entry level and midrange models (and Ibanez and Epiphone have a highend range as well).
Dean might have models you can afford too.
Just do NOT buy an ultra-cheap guitar. They’re almost designed to disappoint.
Spend a bit more and get something in the $300-400 range.
HONESTLY..If your trying to learn how to play guitar, i would just get a guitar you like. why bother buying “beginner” or cheap electrics when your gunna eventually buy a better one?
any cheap electrics come in a bundle sumtimes or in a box. Target and Walmart sell them.
i would get a Gibson if i were you. not only will you love the sounds the gibsan makes, it will make want to pick it up and keep playing bcus its such a sexy geetar.
get sumthin that will stand out in your room. it will make you excited to play it and willing to learn. if you get a cheap ass fender that sounds like shit, your not gunna be as excited. trust me. ive played with a cheap ass electric for a while then i went to GUITAR CENTER and found a Bass. it grabbed my attention and i wanted to play it. 6 months later i was in a band playing at bars and restruants and f*cking.. loved it. (i stopped playin the electric cus i got bored)my point is,
dont get sumthin thats “CHEAP”. Get sumthin you like. stand out and sounds good.
When I started guitar i started with an acoustic guitar… it is much easier to learn with because nylon strings are easier to play then steel. But if you really want and electric guitar you should try the guitar i have: the Epiphone SG. epiphone is a company that is part of Gibson, except with cheaper products. It looks exactly like the Gibson SG, but instead of 1200 bucks, it is only around 380.
I dont know if my Uncle distributes to your area, but his own brand “SX” is a very popular affordable guitar. It is cheap but good quality and most of them are excellent for beginners. Not trying to sell them or anything, I really do not care what you end up buying, but that is my own personal opinion.
I’m a guitarist with 35 years playing experience and 20 years of teaching experience and have helped a lot of beginners pick out their first guitar.
In general, I really like to see them get a Fender Stratocaster, and here’s why:
1. They are a quintessentially American rock’n'roll guitar.
2. They keep their value, in case you don’t want stick with the guitar and decide to sell it (unlike a copy made by any other brand).
3. You can buy one at a few different price points, from cheap (the Squier line), to moderate (the made in Mexico “standard” line) or the more expensive American Standard lines. You can even go crazy and spend too much money on one of the “artist” models. I think that the Made in Mexico Strat is a perfect beginner guitar. The Squiers are so cheap, you’ll get a guitar that will not stay in tune as well due to cheaper hardware (tuners, bridge).
4. If you ultimately decide that you need a “classier” guitar, like a Gibson Les Paul, 335 or 175, you’ll probably still be glad to have that Strat in your arsenal. You never need regret owning it.
The Strat is the universal, basic guitar that just never seems to go out of style and is played on a wide-range of styles and types of popular music. You can’t go wrong with that guitar.
Don’t get any of the trendier looking “Strat-based” copies, like from Ibanez or others, you’ll probably end up hating it and not be able to get any money for it in resale.
Do make sure that you get it “set up” for maximum playability. Any guitar, but especially a cheap one, is probably not going to be set up with nice, low, playable “string action” (term for the height of the strings above the fretboard. Low action means it’s easier to press the string down onto the fretboard, hence easier and faster. High action means you have to press the string down further, hence, harder to play, slower, and painful to your fingertips!).
So, if you pick up your guitar – any guitar, not just a Strat – from a store, make sure they set it up for you. If you buy it used, then take someone who plays with you to make sure it’s not ridiculously hard to play and if the guitar needs it, take your newly acquired axe to a repair shop and spend a little money getting them to adjust the action.
ibanez, epiphone, or new york pro. theyre all really good, so are new york pros evne though a lot of people havent heard of them yet. they have a really nice sound though.
These are some pretty basic guitar models.

go for a fender or a samik… both great beginning guitars
MAKE SURE TO GET AN AMERICAN FENDER! you’ll know, there more expensive, if you cannot afford one then get a samik!
A Mexican-made Fender Strat is a great beginner guitar. Very solid.
I started on an Ibanez. Fender makes a version called the Squire. Or try the guitars by First Act.
