Whats a good beginners Electric Guitar to get?

Hey. I plan on learning to learn some type of instrument before i graduate from high school (sophomore next year) and I want to learn the electric guitar, simply because of all the Slipknot, Slayer, Manson, Underoath, etc. songs that I love, and I’d like to be able to play like them. I was wondering if anyone out there can tell me about some good Electric Guitar beginner kits I should buy, and if I find a kit, what are the basics that it should include. Thank You.

A Fender Strat! They have packs that include the guitar, straps, chords, wires, an amp, and some books. That is what I started out with. I think that will be sufficent for you.

if you’re into metal and stuff, then there are some pretty cheap B.C Rich packages out there that would be good, or if you wanted to could get a squire stratocaster for about a hundres bucks.

Never get a kit! Also, I would have you begin with a used guitar that you can get at a cheap price but good quality. I have a fender which works well for me, but then again I’m not a beginner. Also I would recomend getting an acoustic before going to electric, they have good sound quality without an amp and other expensive gear.
    Good luck!

Good choice in music. If you like metal get an ibanez don’t get a strat. Ibanezes are cheap and are great and don’t ever get a kit!

Cool, your a metal head. You should get an ibanez. the RG is a great guitar that comes in various configurations. there are cheap and expensive ones. my first guitar was an ibanez and i still use them. don’t get a Fender or Gibson because they cost too much. the best brands for a metalhead like you and I are Ibanez, ESP, Jackson, and Dean.

Go to musiciansfriend.com to browse many guitars. pay attention to ibanez in particular. you could get a great guitar for 180 dollars. Don’t get a package because they are pieces of crap. just buy a hundred dollar amp. it’ll get you buy.

For a beginner, I would suggest getting a cheapo pawnshop acoustic before anything else. If you have a feel for it, then upgrade to electric (then again, electric guitar is a completely different animal). If you MUST have new, then a low-end Alvarez or Takamine (The Jasmine line is passable).

A good beginner’s electric would be a Squier Strat (Fender’s cheap line), or the Ibanez G series is decent (for the metal look and sound, I would lean toward the grg group). Of course, for the Slash-fans, nothing beats a Les Paul (or, the Epiphone version..cheaper–My nickname is the Less Paul).

If you are going for the metal thing, then a good amp is a must–for a starter, a small marshall or fender amp would suffice–maybe 10 to 20 watts–anything more than that and you will just be wasting money until you decide whether or not to stick with playing.

Have fun with your playing, and dont get discouraged. You wont be a superstar overnight.
